Pursuant to the provisions of the Swiss Confederation’s new Financial Budget Act, administrative units are only permitted to provide commercial services for third parties if authorised to do so by law. This is intended to implement the constitutional principle according to which the production of goods and the provision of services on the free market are fundamentally a matter for the private sector. Consequently Swissmint will not undertake any more minting orders for third parties with effect from May 2007.
