20-franc silver special coin “Lake Geneva” 2026 | Swiss Lakes series | Swissmint
On 19 March 2026, Swissmint issues the new 20-franc silver special coin “Lake Geneva”. Struck in fine silver (999), this coin is the third issue in the four-part “Swiss Lakes” series and pays tribute to Switzerland’s largest lake as a unique natural and cultural heritage site at the heart of Europe.
With around 1,500 lakes and a dense network of rivers, Switzerland is considered an important water reservoir in the heart of Europe. Its lakes not only shape the landscape but also serve as habitats for numerous animal and plant species. At the same time, they are places of tranquillity, leisure and inspiration. With the “Swiss Lakes” coin series, Swissmint is paying tribute to this extraordinary natural and cultural heritage and sending a clear signal about its importance. The series will be completed in 2027 with the special coin “Lake Lucerne”.
The obverse shows a bird's-eye view of Switzerland's largest lake. The landscapes surrounding the lake are outlined with contoured lines towards the edge of the coin. The name of the lake appears in cursive letters next to the image and blends harmoniously into the landscapes of the cantons of Geneva, Vaud and Valais, as well as France.
On the reverse, all special coins in the new “Swiss lakes” series feature a striking graphic symbolising Switzerland's role as Europe's water tower. Around the edge of the coin is the face value of CHF 20, the inscription “CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA”, the minting year 2026 and the mint mark B for Swissmint.
The coin will be released in a limited issue comprising 8,000 coins in uncirculated quality in the blister and 3,500 coins in proof quality in presentation case.
