Producer and Import Price Index rose by 0.8% in April
Neuchâtel, 12.05.2026 — The Producer and Import Price Index increased in April 2026 by 0.8% compared with the previous month, reaching 100.5 points (December 2025 = 100). In particular, petroleum products as well as petroleum and natural gas saw rising prices. Basic metals and semi-finished metal products also became more expensive. Compared with April 2025, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products fell by 2.0%. These are the results of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
In particular, higher prices for petroleum products were responsible for the increase in the Producer Price Index compared with the previous month. Prices also rose for basic metals and semi-finished metal products, electrical equipment, metal products and watches, while raw milk prices fell.
Higher prices compared with March 2026 were recorded in the Import Price Index, particularly for petroleum products and for petroleum and natural gas. Price rises were also observed for basic metals and semi-finished metal products, as well as computers and peripheral equipment. In contrast, lower prices were seen for medical and dental instruments and supplies, furniture and machinery.
