Teachers and other education professionals are an indispensable driving force for education: Across Europe, education systems rely on their expertise, commitment and experience. As highly qualified professionals, they play a central role not only in developing and implementing innovative syllabuses and teaching practices, but also in fostering the holistic development of their pupils. Their work is essential to ensuring that learners acquire the key competences they need. Many European countries face persistent challenges in attracting new teachers to the profession, retaining experienced staff and maintaining motivation throughout an increasingly demanding career.

Switzerland interested in sharing knowledge and experience

At the meeting, participants discussed effective policy approaches to enhance the appeal of the teaching profession, boost motivation and retain teachers and other related professionals. The aim is to improve the quality, inclusiveness and resilience of education systems. Ministers also discussed how closer European cooperation can support the relevant policies in each country.

Rémy Hübschi underscored Switzerland's willingness to share knowledge and experience. Among other things, he highlighted Switzerland's experience with measures to enhance the appeal of the teaching profession. These measures take into account specific local and regional challenges and contexts. He went on to stress the importance of taking all sectors of the education system into account as well as maintaining and enhancing the appeal of vocational trainers, vocational school teachers and other VET professionals.

Mr Hübschi also took the opportunity to informally discuss current education policy issues with his European counterparts.
