Defence against minidrones: armasuisse procures drone defence systems from the Swiss supplier Securiton

Bern, 20.11.2025 — The Federal Office for Defence Procurement armasuisse has decided to issue the award for minidrone defence systems. After a four-week evaluation test (field experiment) for detecting and defending against minidrones to protect military infrastructures at the Meiringen aerodrome, armasuisse awarded the Swiss supplier Securiton the contract to deliver several defence systems. The systems are designed as partially mobile and can thus also be used in subsidiary operations of the Swiss Armed Forces for civil authorities.

The Armed Forces already have experience in the deployment of minidrones. In particular, they are used for reconnaissance and surveillance tasks, to obtain information for a better assessment of the situation. However, there is currently a capability gap in effective defence against enemy minidrones.

Immediate measure for defence against micro and minidrones

During a field experiment in summer 2025, operation of a drone defence system was tested by the troops. Based on these findings and as a reaction to the increasing sightings of drones, the Armed Forces tasked the Federal Office for Defence Procurement armasuisse as an immediate measure to urgently procure drone defence systems against micro and minidrones. The Armed Forces are thus strengthening the protection of the troops and their own infrastructure in the normal position.

armasuisse has now decided to award the procurement of several drone defence systems to the Swiss supplier Securiton. Procurement in the amount of CHF 3.5 million will be handled via the commitment appropriation for personal equipment and materiel renewal of the Swiss Armed Forces (AEB). As the drone defence systems are partially mobile, they can also be used for other purposes and tasks of the Armed Forces as necessary and in any location – for example, as part of subsidiary operations for civilian authorities or in peace-keeping services.
